  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup Swiss Valley Farms white milk (scalded)
  • 3 tbl sugar
  • 1 tbl salt
  • 2 tbl Swiss Valley Farms butter
  • 1 egg (slightly beaten)
  • 7 cups flour (divided)
  • 2 cups (8 oz.) Swiss Valley Farms shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese

Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl. Let stand 10 minutes. Combine milk, sugar, salt and butter. Stirring until butter melts. Cool until lukewarm. Add milk mixture, egg and 2 cups flour to yeast mixture. Stir until smooth and elastic. Stir in cheese; gradually stir in enough of the remaining flour to make soft dough. Turn out onto a floured surface; cover and let rise 10 to 15 minutes. Then knead dough until smooth. Add a little flour if needed so it doesn't stick to your hands. Place dough into a well greased bowl turning over to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled. Punch dough down and then turn out onto a floured surface again. Divide dough in half and shape each into a loaf. Place in greased loaf pans. Brush with melted butter. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 375° F for 30 minutes or until the loaves are sound hollow when you tap on them. Remove from pans and brush tops with butter.
